Survival Guide: Paris Fashion Week

So Paris Fashion Week began yesterday here in the City of Light and as promised, I wrote up a little survival guide. In here you’ll find tips and tricks for surviving one of the busiest and most exciting weeks of the year as well as a few of my favorite products.

Maybe the most important thing I can tell you (and something I’ve learned the hard way) is plan, plan, and plan some more. Map out the shows you’re going to as well as the events, presentations and parties, then write down the times, addresses and how you will get there. I usually like to keep track of this in a physical planner as well as on my phone. I know it seems basic, but this is SO important! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been rushing from one thing to another only to realize I had double booked myself or had misplaced the information for a show I was so looking forward to.

Transportation: Figure out ahead of time whether you will be driving, taking public transport or using uber because the time you need for each will vary greatly. Also, if you’re doing Fashion Week on a budget, I would definitely reccomend getting familiar with the metro and bus system (I know, ew.. But it’s not that hard, I promise!) to save time and money because uber usually has crazy prices and lots of surcharges during this week.

All invites are good invites. I know way too many people who only want to go to shows or presentations for designers they already know and love, but take a chance! Accept an invite from a lesser-known brand or check out a new designers’ presentation.. You just might find your new favorite label and you’ll probably have a great time doing so.

Here are a few of my fave products that I really can’t live without during this week:

Avène Antirougeurs Day Cream

This gentle cream is a great makeup base and has built in SPF. Smooth some on in the morning for instant sun protection and an even skin tone (with products like this, no wonder the French are famous for their gorgeous skin).

John Masters Organics Hair Milk

Essentially a leave-in conditioner this luscious hair milk will leave your hair refreshed and stronger (plus it smells divine!).

B.B. Straight Blow Dry Cream

This timesaver is an essential during Fashion Week. Before your blowout, put a dime-sized amount of this in your hair and comb it through – you’ll be amazed at how much time it shaves off your normal routine and how long it makes your hairstyle last!

Dior Powder Brow Pencil (Dark Brown)

This pencil has an amazing powdery texture and comes in a variety of shades, making it super easy to fill in your brows (even in a rush).

Stila Vinyl Lip Color

I love this lip color in merlot! It provides the perfect amount of color without drying your lips, and it really does last all day.

Sephora Sheet Mask – Orchid

This mask is super low-maintenance and is the perfect recipe for fresh skin. Put it on before bed for 15-20 minutes and you’ll wake up with a glowy complexion and super hydrated skin.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum

I love this serum because it’s the perfect texture and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. This is an amazing addition to my nighttime routine and definitely helps give my skin that extra boost it needs after a fashion week night out!

&Other Stories Cat Sunglasses

Last but not least, be sure to find an amazing pair of sunglasses. Not only will they protect you from skin-damaging UV rays but they will also come in handy to help protect your eyes from all the flashing cameras. I love this simple pair from &Other Stories, check out their website for more!

Hope you guys enjoyed my fashion week guide! Here’s to a great week to come!
Xx,

Spring Picks: Nail Polish

Pictured: Suzi Shops and Island Hops by OPI

I’m loving the spring color trends this season, and what better way to try them out than on your fingers! The color itself isn’t the only thing I look for in  nail lacquer, it also has to be super long-lasting (1 week+) and easy to apply. Check out my picks for a trendy spring manicure below.
I’m totally in love with Pantone’s Color Trend Report for 2016, and can’t get enough of their Rose Quartz hue. Fresh and light with just enough pink to make it wearable, this shade is flattering on every skin tone.

For a brighter flush of pink (think almost Bubblegum-tinted), I love this shade from the OPI Hawaii Collection. It goes on so beautifully, and it’s a unique, bold pink that is easy to pull off.

This Spring, I’m really into neutrals and nudes. Here are a few great shades that always get rave reviews whenever I wear them. Plus, they can be worn any time of the year – hello versatility.

Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer by Zoya – Buy it here for €10

This shade by OPI has been one of my go-tos for several seasons now. I love the hint of pink mixed into a beige base. This color makes your nails look amazingly long, and the brush is perfect for a flawless at-home application.

If you’re ready for something a little different, try the color Pantone is calling “Limpet Shell”: a lovely light Robin’s Egg Blue. Again, a shade that flatters a wide range of skin tones and really elongates your nails! Pair it with a crisp white top or dress for maximum impact.

Recap: Paris Fashion Week

One of my favorite parts about living in Paris is the seemingly endless access to beauty this city affords: gorgeous architecture, enchanting streets and coffee haunts, and of course the daily inspiration found in people watching. PFW is one of those times when there is such an outpouring of creativity all centered around a single topic: fashion. Several times each year, Paris comes to life with an influx of designers, photographers, models and all around influencers and people of interest. This AH 16/17 season was no exception. Attending shows in between work and heading to showrooms and capsule collection launches at night, it was a busy week to say the least.

Any PFW attendee will tell you the same story, it’s all lovely and stimulating and of course you learn and see so much, but by the end of the week it’s exhausting, and everything starts to blur together. This year, a collection caught my eye and it was something so unexpected yet so incredible that I just have to tell you guys about it.

As I made my way upstairs at the Ozone showroom in the heart of Le Marais, a beautiful, Perisan Blue fabric caught my eye. I headed over to get a closer look and the entire collection blew me away. Enter luxury brand womenswear designer Bav Tailor. Born in London but with roots all over, Bav  uses her heritage to draw inspiration for her work. Her collections are entirely produced in Italy, and she is dedicated to using only Eco-sustainable materials and technology while retaining an excellence in craftsmanship. She explained that her current collection draws from 5 different aesthetics: DVAITA, LOKYA, SHAKTI, SUCI and PRANA. Each of these words envelop an ideology which somehow perfectly describes the aura of their pieces.  I love how each piece is so original, it’s refreshing to see a collection that is so different yet remains elegant and wearable (not to mention Eco-friendly!!). See my favorite looks from the collection below.

DVAITA Kimono Coat

DVAITA entails the concept of dualism, the existence of two separate realities. Each piece within the collection may be worn in at least two different ways.

LOKYA Cloud Dress

The LOKYA collection bestows freedom. Pieces that allow movement and flexibility. Precious, noble, natural fibers that flow freely on the skin without restrictions, delicately allowing the mind to breathe, respecting ethics and the environment.

SHAKTI Gown

SHAKTI: energy and empowerment are at the core of each SHAKTI piece. Sartorial silhouettes that represent liberation, movement and divine femininity using rich, natural fabrics from silks, bamboo, virgin wool to Eco-sustainable materials that drape effortlessly. Pieces inspired by the strength of a woman exclusively for her.

SUCI Skin Dress

SUCI Biker Jacket

SUCI: clean and purified lines represent each sartorial SUCI piece. Organic, natural fabrics from silk, bamboo, cotton to Eco-sustainable materials that crisply align with the contours of the skin to cleanse the soul. Pieces inspired by Japanese origami techniques.

PRANA Cube Jacket

PRANA: life force, the PRANA collection incorporates 3D elements which symbolize an energy flow around the body. Pieces inspired by Japanese transformational reconstruction, creating sartorial contours with exquisite materials that encase the body.
